Add another major outdoor track and field competition to the athletic schedule at Arcadia High School this year. Already the site April 6-8 for the 50th Arcadia Invitational and Feb. 11 for the second annual Winter Outdoor Championships, Arcadia has now added the CIF Southern Section Masters meet May 26 to its impressive schedule.
The Masters meet, the final qualifying meet for Southern Section athletes on their journey to the California state championships in June at Buchanan High’s Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, has been held off and on at Cerritos College since 1973. “Arcadia High School has a long of running first class track and field events over the years and we feel that this will be an excellent venue for our CIF Southern Section schools and athletes as they run to qualify for the CIF State meet, “ said Rainer Wulf, Southern Section assistant commissioner in charge of track and field. With Cerritos College’s Falcon Stadium scheduled to undergo renovation, an alternate venue had to be secured for the Masters meet. The Southern Section championships, first held at Falcon Stadium since 1963, will still be held May 20 at Cerritos College with renovation scheduled to begin May 22. Falcon Stadium was also the site for the inaugural Winter Outdoor Championships last year, before being moved to Arcadia this season.
